Passive smoking as a menace

      Volume: 24 (10/05/2006)

A study that was recently published shows that the second smoking increases considerably the risks for heart disease. A program, regarding the next 25 years, was released and the main objective is to reduce the passive smoking. In this way more than 228.000 new appearances of heart disease could be stopped and also the other existing cases of 119.000 (linked to smoking) heart related death over the next 25 years could simply disappear. Between 4-17 % of nonsmoking population is in US a victim of second hand smoke and usually this happens at work or even home.
The effects of eliminating secondhand smoke would be:

A reduced heart disease rate by 9300 in the first year adding up more than 28300 until 2030, and also the number of death (related to this problem) would drop severely by 2.200 in the first year. That study was published by AHA, American Heart Association this week at a meeting in Washington DC. The researcher have highlighted also that the passive smoking, which is defined like an involuntary exposure to cigarette smoke in the exterior environment, can cause up to 21.000 cardiovascular based death yearly. Exposure is appearing when the inhaled quantity of smoke is equally or than exceeds the effects of smoking one cigarette per day. One third of estimated death (related to this issue) is affecting the population without any heart disease. That is why we should all be aware of the danger representing passive smoking because it has a strong way of affecting our lives. Also there is a big difference between the number of men and women regarding the effects of heart disease problems. An analyze showed that while the death rate for men fell by 3.3 percents annually, the annual decrease is smaller for women because the rate dropped by only 2.5 percents. This nationwide analysis found that just over one in 10 men and women have been diagnosed with some sort of cardiovascular condition. That means 12.9 million women and 11.7 million men over the age of 18. Around a third was represented by women age 65 or older.
Life is a miracle and we should cherish that gift, by doing everything we can do to keep our health undamaged. Always remember that in some cases passive smoking is lethal, when exposed for a long period of time. It is our right to live in a clean society, it's our right to live.
